2002 BGA track!!!

with results and such...
bugga bugga bga = my aol screenname

4x800: I ran the anchor leg in 2:10, 64 and 66 second laps. That's more even than I've ever been!
1600: Trying to keep up with the tall dude from Walton (Justin Wood) I ran a 4:51.
400h: I ran a pr (personal record) in the first race of the year. That's a good start! :) 61 seconds.
3200: 10:49. something
1st places: 3200 + 400h
2nd places: 4x8 and 1600

First official meet, with D/H, and Unatego:

4x8: Recieving the handoff for the anchor leg, Unatego was only 15 meters away... so I ran quick, just trying to stay out front. they were people i didn't know, so i ran a 2:11, 64, 67.
1600: 4:58.8. I purposefully went out slower but then didn't keep up the pace later in the race.
400h: Went out like a madman and slowed down a lot... 63 seconds.
3200m dash: 11:37 in a hoody, track uniform, shorts, sweats, with an undershirt and small tshirt under the uniform. I took the hoody off coming in for completion of the fourth lap and then proceeded to never be colder and warmer at the same time in my life... (upper and lower halves)

All 1st places!!! :)

Wrestling State Champ 2000
Josh ... why can't i remember his last name anymore... anyways, this is a picture from the Cooperstown invitational in 2000. It is of josh... josh... oh, forget it.
(the next day, 5.15.02:)note: His name is Josh Ruff. And he was a wrestling state champ for bga in his senior year, also the year that this photo was taken. (photo missing... hmm...)

BG, 4-10-02, w/Sidney, Unatego, and Delhi
4x800: By the time I recieved the handoff for the anchor leg, I would have had to run a world record to catch up to the team in first place (sidney) and unatego was a little bit ahead. I ran a 63 first lap, and caught up a lot. I finally caught up with 200m left to go. I beat him in the straightaway for 2nd place (a 64 second lap, and a 2:07 overall).
1600: you have no idea how fun it was to run the mile race yesterday! I knew that i'd, so far in the year, run slow third laps in the mile. I've always done that in all of my track seasons. so what did i do?> i went out and ran an excellent third lap, and was just like, hey! this is cool! instead of wondering if i could do it, and thinking, oh, i dunno, i just went out and ran it! 4:45, and today peeps are reading the papers and weeping...
400h: 1:01.5, Tom Mirabito: 1:01.7. He lead for the first three hundred meters, always by about two or three steps. Then I caught up and went two or three steps ahead with about 80m left to go. Tom nearly caught up and we went across the line, myself one step ahead.
3200: good race, even laps mostly. 10:45
All firsts, except 4x800, 2nd.

Today is an Ice cream run!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
April 12th, 2002. We're going for an ice cream run, where every one will torture me with their ice cream. I, unfortunately, said that i'd give up ice cream untill after the track state meet. so it's yogurt for me, and i'm going to find some way to get back at all those mean people that will wave it in front of me today...
also, ice cream runs on: april 18th(it wasn't the purpose of the run, but we ended up getting ice cream anyways.) april 19th, and more to come!
April 18th, we trained in oneonta to work on the steeplechase stuff. the jumps are so cool :)

April 20th, 2002. Oneonta Invite!
3000m steeple- I went out and ran the first lap and a half at a pace that would be a 9 flat steeplechase. That would be the section IV record by 39 point something seconds, and maybe the state record. Needless to mention, i did not hold the pace, and somewhere in the middle ran 88 and 89 second laps... but i ended up with a 10:18, good for first.
800m- Went out like mad, 58 seconds, then ran a 67 just trying to hold on, for a 2:05.5
4x400- ran the third leg, 58 seconds, then handed off to Tyler. Felt very strong... I didn't go out and run like mad the first 300 like i would in a 400m run usually... I just ran strong, saving just enough for the sprint, and then sprinted the last 100.
3000 and 800:1st
relay:4th

April 24th, 2002: Home meet with Delhi and SE
4x800: we were out in front... ran easy. we won with ... 9:34 i think.
1600: 4:53 ... easy again
400h: barely beat tyler james by one step...he lead the whole race, i could hear him jumping and landing. going into the last 100m I started running only on my toes to pick up the speed and caught up to him. after going over the last hurdle and sprinting to the line I gained one step on him... 1:01.6 to 1:01.7. And with a teammate, can you say.. saweeet. :)
3200: easy. 11:05? I dunno.
all firsts. Getting ready for next week ;) the big time is right around the corner...

April 26th, 2002: meet with harpursville, delhi, oxford, unadilla valley...
110hurdles: I was on pace for a good time till i hit a hurdle and uh... met the track. WHo says track isn't a contact sport? maybe not with other people... :)
1600: the sweet 16... 67,68,72,71 for 4:38.5!!!
that's the best mile i've ever run, and it was all alone. sweet :)
400h: i was still dead tired from the mile, which i could tell because i hit practically every hurdle, including the first and last three, and i think one of the two in the middle i can't remember though... 1:05
3200: 10:27
1sts: 1600, 3200
3rd: 400h
5th: 5th? 110 hurdles ;) hey, my goal was just to finish.
April 30th, 2002: I ran the 4x1600, second leg, in 4:50, picking up one spot to put us in first place for good. The shuttle hurdles was next, in which i ran a good 110high hurdles, last leg, to hold second place. I didn't even hit one hurdle! that's better than my 400h races. :) Then was the distance medley, in which we took third... i picked up one or two spots in the 1600 at the end. Then, lastly, was the 4x800. I recieved the baton for the anchor leg in 5th place. I knew there was a pack of three ahead of me, and first place was way out in front, impossibly far in front. I ran the first lap in 63 and didn't catch up to any of them. I caught up with the fourth place guy with 290m left in the 800, the third place guy at about 250, and was slowly reeling in the second place guy from harpursville. With 150 meters to go I caught up to him and took off like a bottle rocket, passing him, and BGA took second place. (64 second lap, so 2:07 total)
a 4:50 mile, a 4:55 mile, a 2:07 800, and about a 18 110h. Pretty good day!

Cooperstown invite: 4:34.9 mile, 10:06 3200m, 2:06 800 split
1sts: mile, two mile
6th: 4x800

Davenport invite: In the mile with stamford harrier josh griswold I ran the first lap in 63 seconds. the second was in 66, and i was thinking... hey, that's a great 800 time. but we're in the 1600! actually i was excited to be running at a pace like that. we ran the next lap and started to separate a little bit... josh gained maybe two seconds on me. I crossed the line for the 1200 in 3:17, 3:18. He was just a little bit ahead of me. Then I started gaining on him... I caught up to him and pulled out onto his shoulder with 260m-270m to go in the lap, so we were on the backstretch. He had more left than me, and the adrenaline left me,... before the turn i'd pulled back inside. He ran a meet record and league record 4:25.8. I ran a team record 4:28.96. Then in the two mile I ran 10:26, very easily, to win. In the 4x800 i passed the leader of the race with 220m in the anchor leg left, and ended up winning by 6 seconds i think.
1sts:3200m, 4x800
2nd:1600m

s-e: 4:46.6 1600, 1st
come from behind victory in the 3200m, 10:07.1
2:09 split in the 4x800 (can't remember place... 4th i think)

bg, MAC championships:
steeplechase, victory! my senior year has been so sweet. Although it would be nicer if our league was a little more competitive. Next week, in the sectional steeplechase, the competition will be brisk ;)
1600m: 4:44 for first
3200m: 10:16 for first
4x800: we took third to sidney and harpursville 9:00.8

(5-21-02) Quoted from thedailystar.com:
Section Four Class B Meet

Bainbridge-Guilford/Afton's Prahlad Genung set a school record 10:07.8 en route to winning the 3,000 steeplechase at Union-Endicott.

"It's by far his best performance of the year," B-G/A assistant coach Robb Munro said.

Dani Albrecht also set a school record in the steeplechase for the Bears. She finished second in a time of 8:07.4, which broke the her record of 8:15 set earlier this season.

Teammate Stephanie Holowacz finished third in 8:37.9.

The remainder of the meet will be completed Thursday at Waverly.

5,21,02: I ran the steeplechase at union-endicott, as the article above states. I know that I've made a few of the steeplechases that i've run this year torture on myself because i've gone out quickly. I knew that the strategy today would be to let someone else lead for a little bit, and run much more relaxed. I did let the kid from waverly lead the first lap, and then the second right up until the water pit. After the hurdle barriers and water barrier I was always having to slow up if I wanted to stay right with the lead guy instead of taking the lead. And on the second water pit I would have had to literally stop to let the person take the lead back, which he lost on the water pit. I never had anyone challenge me. I ran the first 200m of the race in 40 seconds, which is perfect, staying right with the guys. Then I ran 1:18, 1:18, which is perfect as well! Later on in the race I started to slow, and i didn't pick up the pace on account of being drunken with tiredness... that's the best description I think i've ever been able to come up with for the feeling. I could have pushed myself much more, but there was no one there pushing me and so I succumbed to the tiredness. The best athletic moments are when that feeling is overcome;) and from here on out, I will overcome that feeling everytime I step on the track. These are the moments that will define my memories for the rest of my life...

well, @waverly things weren't the greatest... i lost my watch from my grandparents, i lost the mile (although i don't care as much about that), the father of the kid who won the mile blew up at my coach, and yea....
but i ran my races well. Mile 4:41.something. 2nd place. 3200m: we ran the beginning of the race perfectly. i was following fred joslyn from chenango forks, and we went through the first four laps like this: 1:15, three 1:14's. then fred was slowing down in the fifth lap, 78, and i passed him to take the lead. 1:14, 1:14, 1:11. sweet! 9:56.3

AT state qualifiers: We got off the bus. It rained. It stopped, and we jogged some. It rained some more. It thundered, then they cleared the stands and sent runners into the various buildings around the track. Then it stopped raining and they ran the pentathalon hurdles and the guys and girls steeplechases. Then the girls 4x100 (which lansing won, with sidney right behind). Then as the guys 4x100 stepped on the track, it started raining again, and thundering. Everyone took cover and they cancelled the rest of the meet. well, that was a good thing, because...

The steeplechase couldn't have started smoother. I let others lead the race, and ran nearly in the second lane, sometimes in it, around the turns but that's ok. I took the lead while we were running the second full lap, so really it was the third. I kept running on pace and was doing excellent. Then, in the fifth lap I think it was, I complacently went over a steeple (the one before you get to the water pit jump). I put my front leg up fine but didn't move my trail leg at all. My knee, as expected when one does something dumb like that (I admit it), slammed into the steeple. I was on pace at that point to run 9:50, right about. The section four record is 9:39 (which my coach holds : Robb Munroe). But then I dropped an 84, and did for the next two laps (84 was the best of the three laps). Tom Hammer from Ithaca pulled up on me and took the lead with 450 m to go or so. I went with him, knowing that it was exactly what i should do because who knows how good you'll feel going into the sprint or not. To let the race be decided there would have been wussy of me. I was feeling that desire to take the lead with 200m to go, but it wasn't strong enough to take action. If he'd made a move I would have automatically responded... I know that's not the best way to do things. But the point is that he didn't do that, and I did pick the speed up enough to be one step ahead of him when we hit the steeple 60m from the finish, and out sprinted him anyways after that.
The short of it? A continued undefeated streak in the steeple, lasting... 5 races. Two Invitationals, League championships, sectionals, state qualifiers... Saturday will test the 3200m streak. I think i've won 10 out of 10 3200m races this year... and the state qualifier race will be the strongest test by FAR of the whole year to date. And then, states will be a test to dwarf all others anyways, but let's take this thing one step at a time... :)
I won the state qualifier race in the last hundred meters, after taking the lead going into the third lap and developing quite a lead on 2nd place. I hit my knee in the fourth lap. Ithaca's Tom Hammer took the lead right before the gun for the last lap, and I went with him, and beat him in the last 100m for a 10:05.7.
At states, I ran a 9:59.80 FAT timing, for a newer and harder BGA team record. 'twas good enough for 5th place, class b, in the state, and 16th in the whole state. That's dern good. I couldn't have imagined a better season.. well , I can... 15th place :) or national champ, y'know... but i'm happy. And that's what counts: that i'm having fun with it.
Soon, College Cross Country! Division One! Good God Sir!
